Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Course
The PHTLS course by Medicore Medical Services aims to promote critical thinking as the foundation for improving the quality of trauma care and decreasing mortality. Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
The PHTLS course Ireland is an internationally recognised training programme designed to improve the quality of trauma care and reduce mortality in prehospital settings. Developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma, this course by Medicore is the gold standard in prehospital trauma education. It equips emergency medical professionals with the critical thinking skills and hands-on techniques necessary for managing trauma patients effectively.
This intensive pre hospital life support course is structured to enhance the decision-making abilities of EMTs, paramedics, and other prehospital care providers. The two-day programme provides a comprehensive approach to trauma patient care, ensuring that participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience to handle real-life emergencies.

PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital providers.
Recognised for 16 CPC Points for PHECC-Registered EMTs.
Requirements
Students should be physically fit enough to carry out chest compression on a manikin while kneeling. It is a requirement that students demonstrate effective compressions and ventilations during the class. Student should also have a level of English language proficiency that will allow them to interact with the instructor and be led by the DVD.
Method of Delivery
Range of techniques including case studies, skills practice and patient simulations to assist students with the knowledge and skills to enhance patient care. The course is delivered through English.
Renewal
A one day (8 hour) classroom based course is available for individuals who have successfully completed the two day PHTLS provider course within the past four years. Current PHTLS provider certificate or wallet card is required to be submitted on registration. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion valid for 4 years.

Duration
The two day (16 hour) classroom based course is facilitated by qualified instructors who use a range of techniques including case studies, skills practice and patient simulations to assist students with the knowledge and skills to enhance patient care.
Assessment
This can be broken down to 6 hour days or be done over successive weekends.
Certification
The course costs €250 per person, including course textbook and access to online learning platform. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion from Medicore Medical Services, a wallet card recognising them as PHTLS providers for 4 years.
